How the PTO optimizer works
The planner starts with Saturdays, Sundays and published federal observed holidays as days off. It then tests possible breaks around those holidays, counts the weekdays that would require PTO, and combines non-overlapping opportunities without exceeding your allowance.
The balanced option spreads useful breaks across the year. Longer breaks gives extra weight to extended stretches away. Best value favors plans that turn each PTO day into the most consecutive time off. Results are planning suggestions, not a promise that leave will be approved.
Check your employer calendar first
Private employers are not required to follow the federal holiday calendar, and some organizations substitute days or close on additional dates. Confirm each holiday and PTO request with your employer before booking travel. State holidays, company shutdowns and personal days are not automatically included.
Observed holiday dates are based on U.S. Office of Personnel Management schedules. Calculations happen in your browser; Daymark does not receive your selections.

PTO planning questions
Does the plan use all of my PTO?
It uses no more than your selected allowance and may leave a day unused when another holiday-centered break would overlap or add little planning value.
Are federal holidays paid days off for everyone?
No. Federal offices follow the federal schedule, but private-employer paid holiday policies vary.
Why does a recommendation use an observed date?
When a fixed federal holiday falls on a weekend, the federal workforce generally observes it on the adjacent Friday or Monday. That weekday is what can create a longer practical break.
What does the calendar download contain?
It contains only the weekdays the plan recommends requesting as PTO. It is a one-time file and does not submit a leave request.
