HOLIDAY HOURS
Are Banks Open Today? 2026–2028 Holiday Guide
Check bank-holiday planning dates for 2026–2028, understand Federal Reserve exceptions and confirm the hours of the branch you need.
Short answer
Many bank branches close on Federal Reserve holidays, but banks are private businesses and may set their own branch hours. Online banking, ATMs and instant-payment services can remain available even when a branch is closed. Transactions that depend on a business-day settlement schedule may post on the next processing day.

The Saturday exception matters in 2026
Independence Day falls on Saturday, July 4. The Federal Reserve says Reserve Banks remain open on the preceding Friday when a holiday falls on Saturday, although the Board of Governors is closed. Your bank may still choose different Friday or Saturday branch hours.
What usually still works
- ATMs and debit-card purchases generally remain available.
- Online and mobile banking usually remain accessible.
- Transfers, checks or deposits may wait for the next business-day processing cycle.
Before visiting a branch
Check your bank’s location page or app for the exact branch. Credit unions, in-store branches and airport locations can use different hours.

Branch access and transaction processing are different
A locked branch does not necessarily stop card purchases, ATMs or online access. However, ACH transfers, check clearing, wires and deposit availability can depend on banking business days. A transaction submitted during a holiday may not begin processing until the next eligible day.
Use the bank’s own location page for lobby and drive-through hours, then check its funds-availability or transfer notice when timing matters.
